Orlando, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Washington Wizards avoided playing a third overtime this week with an alley-oop at the buzzer. Bradley Beal caught Andre Millers inbounds pass near the rim with 0.8 seconds left and put the ball through the rim in time to give the Wizards a 91-89 win over the Orlando Magic on Wednesday night. The play came after Victor Oladipo missed a jumper for the Magic at the other end with a chance to go ahead. It followed Washingtons 133-132 win over the Boston Celtics on Monday in double-overtime. John Wall scored the last 10 Wizards points in that one and had 21 with 11 assists against the Magic, helping Washington to its sixth win in seven games. Oladipo scored 17 to lead the Magic but couldnt stay close enough to Beal on the final play of the game. Magic coach Jacque Vaughn said there were a lot of reasons his team lost and pointed to a couple of transition 3-pointers the Wizards had that his players couldnt stop. Game never boils down to that last play, Vaughn said. Tobias Harris added 15 points for Orlando, which returned home after a 3-3 road trip that ended with back-to-back wins over Utah and Sacramento. Harris scored to give the Magic an 89-84 lead with 1:38 remaining, their last points of the game. Consecutive buckets by Wall trimmed it to one point and Rasual Butler made one of his two free throws with 16 seconds left to tie the score. Oladipo dribbled out most of the remaining time before rising for his long jumper inside the 3-point line on the high right side, which clanked off the rim. He was on Beal at the other end, but lost a step to the Washington guard in traffic and wasnt close enough as both players leapt for Millers pass from the sideline near the benches. Beal touched the ball only for a split-second at the end of the lob, directing it through the rim for the win. The Magic subbed in 7-foot center Dewayne Dedmon for the final play and had him guard the inbounds pass. I thought they were going to put the big man under the basket, said Miller. Once he came to the ball, I knew I was going to throw it to the rim. I just had to get over his arms. The Wizards moved to 3-0 against the Magic this season -- all single-digit wins. They have won seven straight in the series since Orlandos last victory on March 29, 2013. Washington big man Nene returned after missing a game with a knee injury and scored 12 points in 21 minutes off the bench. Neither team led by more than nine points in the game. Pospisil had to deal with the heat and some niggling injuries on the way to a 6-7 (3), 7-6 (4), 6-3, 6-4 win over Italys Paolo Lorenzi to reach the third round in Melbourne for a second consecutive year. The eighth-seeded Raonic, meanwhile, looked strong in a 6-4, 7-6 (3), 6-3 victory over American Donald Young. Raonic, from Thornhill, Ont., fired 17 aces and had 44 winners. I served well and got better and better as the match went on, said Raonic. I was much more aggressive than I was in the first round. That was a step forward. Ive put in a lot of good work, I believe. Im just very by the book in the things I want to do. Im just trying to follow that through. In five appearances, Raonic has never failed to reach at least the third round in Melbourne. He next faces German Benjamin Becker, who came from two sets down to defeat Australias Lleyton Hewitt 2-6, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2. Pospisil, from Vancouver, duplicated his best Grand Slam singles showing with his win in just over 3 1/2 hours. He said he had to fight the elements to stay in the contest. I didnt feel that great. It was a tough match, he said. It was surprisingly more humid than I thought it would be. My opponent was tough and conditions were tough. But I found a way to win somehow. I was not feeling as good as I should have been feeling, and was not hitting as big as I wanted. Pospisil had 22 aces despite gettting treatment on court at various times for leg and back issues.dddddddddddd The world No. 60 next faces Spains Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, who defeated Alejandro Gonzalez of Colombia 6-1, 6-3, 6-3. The Canadian finished almost level on stats, with 66 winners and 64 unforced errors. He broke Lorenzi on four of 10 occasions. Pospisil said that he caught a break when the sun dipped behind the clouds and some breeze kicked up after he dropped the 57-minute first set. The cloud cover and wind helped me a lot, he said. I was able to catch my breath. That changed things a bit for me and helped me win the second set. In the end it was more of a physical battle than a tennis battle. Pospisil played down his injury treatments. I had some hip pain but only for a few games, he said. I had a small recurring back issue — a muscle which has been tightening up on me for a few weeks occasionally. But not anything big, nothing that would be match-threatening. Pospisil won a five-setter on Tuesday and then played doubles a day later in a full program at the first major of the season. Hes looking forward to his first career meeting against Garcia-Lopez. This is a good opportunity for both of us, Pospisil said. Hes a great player with a lot of experience. Its better to play him than a lot of guys I could be meeting in the third round of a Grand Slam. Toronto veteran Daniel Nestor and new partner Rohan Bopanna of India opened the first round with a 7-6 (2), 7-5 victory over Marcos Baghdatis and Australian Marinko Matosevic. Nestor and Bopanna were victorious in Sydney last week.
